My company recently started using SAP. Everyone thought it was cool at first (just being told what it would do), we had all these fun developers come into our company, and now most of those developers are gone, and now we have crap for a system, by far the very worst of the worst, and I mean out of every application I have ever used, SAP is the very worst. Yet we have people, even managers, who seem to like it, but it’s total crap, and most of what is keeping good spirits is the impression that a bad attitude is bad for business, not their true feelings.
Then I was talking to some of our salespeople who go out to speak with other companies, who are all upset with us because we mess up everything with SAP. Nothing goes in right, so what comes out is even worse. Any ways the general consensus from these other companies is “Why are you doing this to us?” and our sales guys try to talk about the big implementation to SAP, and these companies completely sympathize as well, with one President of the Company saying “SAP is one F%&^ up system.”
So far the only real people who like SAP are the consultants, programmers and developers of SAP. They seem to see no wrong with the system, and thrilled to see the little things come alive, and then turn into nasty monsters that destroys business relationships, but keeps more IT staff employed to manage the beast.
And I have been though many implementation, once a huge Siebel change that made our lives hard early on, but things got better. SAP is just the opposite, not all days are worse than yesterday, but that is the trend.
Sorry, a lot of rant, but still question as to how much do you hate SAP?
Here is my quick answer:
Interesting experience. SAP implementations work better for certain people in certain situations. Is this an implementation issue or was SAP not the right fit for your business overall?

Hi,
SAP implementations run for 18-24 months. Peoplesoft implemenations also run for months.
Just why? Why can’t these cycle times be shortened?
Here is my quick answer:
There is a lot to do. You are changing the entire framework of a business usually. Most implementations also must be customized. This is a lot of work as well. Layer on the huge staff, the world-wide release, and the project after project to manage and you get 18-24 months.
