In this post, I’d like to discuss a pretty important topic that my VP and I were talking about today. What is IT? This is quite a fundamental question, isn’t it? Well let’s look at the words: Information Technology. That’s right, we IT-folk manage the company’s information using technology. Well what is information? Information is money! Plain and simple.

IT is the core the of business. The reason I’m saying this is because sometimes our bosses say “we’re cutting costs in IT.” A lot of times I think they don’t realize how vital IT really is to them.

What if you really really need to cut costs in IT?

Well, I recommend that you be strategic with it. Think about the long-term. Short-term: example: I need to cut costs in IT. I think I will let my data run on old storage and servers.
Long term focus example: I need to cut costs in IT, I am considering outsourcing support or outsourcing equipment or outsourcing the entire IT department in general. You want to aim to lower your total cost of ownership over time. See what I mean?

Interesting concept, hey?

If you are interested in discussing this or you have questions and are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, I think I can help. Shoot me in an email at mgujral@us.fujitsu.com or leave a message on 510-828-0498.

Hi there,

Here is a great interview with the CEO of SAP Americas. I have learned a ton from such watching him for the 5 minutes and I hope you learn a lot too. Please send your feedback on the comment section below.

Here are some take-aways from the video that you can start applying to your daily projects:
- When something goes wrong, focus on the big on the picture.
- Start from the top and try to work your way down
- Always try to remember the “why” behind the “what” and make sure you communicate this to your staff as much as possible
- Be the change and be the leader and the nay-sayers will follow

If you are interested in finding more out about SAP and what it can do for your business and you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, please feel free to contact me at mgujral@us.fujitsu.com or by calling 510-828-0498.
